What to see in the Patrick Studio this month – October
Santi & Naz: Fri 25 Oct – Sat 26 Oct
A brand-new show Santi & Naz comes to us in the final week of October, from female-led touring company The Thelmas, who explore social, political and cultural stories within theatre.
Set in 1945, two years before the partition of India, two young women – one Sikh, one Muslim – stand fast against circumstances that would separate them. Santi & Naz looks at social unrest and families and communities being torn apart, neither understands how their religions are set to divide them, having lived side-by-side all their lives.
The dissolution of the British Raj split the country into Hindu and Sikh-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan, displacing over ten million people and leaving over one million dead. It has been described as the greatest humanitarian crisis of modern times, and the effects of the division can still be felt today.
Santi & Naz, with the cast being Aiyana Bartlett (Santi) and Farah Ashraf (Naz), contributes to a conversation about postcolonial legacy whilst giving a fresh perspective on female friendship, coming of age and coming out.
The show premiered at VAULT Festival in 2020 and played at the Pleasance at Edinburgh Festival Fringe after winning the Charlie Hartill Fund in 2023.
Please note that this performance is suggested for ages over 12+.

Gwyneth Goes Skiing: Tue 29 Oct – Thu 31 Oct
At the end of October, the Patrick Studio will be transformed into Deer Valley Ski Resort, Utah. Gwyneth Goes Skiing, written by Linus Karp and Joseph Martin, tells the tale of one of pop cultures most talked about lawsuits, that of Gwyneth Paltrow and her legal opposition optometrist.
Whether you followed the 2023 court case in anticipation or not, this show will bring the chaos of their piste crash to the theatre. Taking us back to 2016 where their worlds collided Gwenyth Goes Skiing brings tongue in cheek humour and a camp, high energy show packed with riotous content leaving you in hysterics.
The track listing includes I Wish You Well and See You In Court, original music comes from Karp and Martin, with a special video appearance by Trixie Mattel, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 3 winner.
As we approach the darker nights and winter season, come and be transported to the mountain tops to watch this showdown, fantastically performed by Linus Karp and Joseph Martin.
The duo is joined on stage by a stagehand who offers dry witty lines and audience members are even turned into characters in the jury and asked their opinions to help solve the case! Expect a cosy show with plenty of corpsing, strong characters, all in all, utter silliness on the slopes!
Please note that this performance is suggested for ages over 14+.
