Birmingham’s largest arts festival, Birmingham Weekender featured an awe-inspiring programme of events from hundreds of world-class West Midlands and international artists and companies from 25-27 Sep 2015.
Birmingham Weekender 2015 included exciting new commissions, world premieres, roaming and pop-up street theatre, a musical picnic, participative events and workshops, and much more, all animating Birmingham’s shopping and civic heart. Most of the events were free. In addition to celebrating the city’s cultural offering, Birmingham Weekender 2015 also marked the opening of the newly transformed New Street Station and Grand Central and coincided with Style Birmingham Live and the Rugby World Cup.
The highlight of Birmingham Weekender was Maudits Sonnants, presented by Birmingham Hippodrome. An estimated 8500 people watched French company Transe Express perform the night-time spectacular in Centenary Square. The show saw a musical chandelier suspended 55 metres into the sky with acrobats, musicians and pyrotechnics.
