Farewell David Bintley
Last night, David Bintley celebrated his final ballet as Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet here at Birmingham Hippodrome.
David received a standing ovation as the Company, audience members and his predecessor, Sir Peter Wright, wished him well following the curtain call of his hit production, Hobson’s Choice.
David has been Director for over 24 years, succeeding Sir Peter Wright (creator of BRB’s productions of The Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Coppelia) in 1995. His involvement with the Company spans more than four decades, first dancing with Sadlers Wells Ballet as the Company was first know before moving to Birmingham.
During David’s time with BRB he has choreographed more than 10 full length and 12 one act ballets, as well as commissioning a further 21 ballets by guest and company choreographers. Some of his major hits include Cinderella (which was Broadcast on the BBC on Christmas day), Beauty and the Beast and Still Life at the Penguin Cafe.
Thank you David for your contribution to the history of the Hippodrome!
In January 2020, Carlos Acosta will take over as Director of Birmingham Royal Ballet. Ahead of that, you can see him on stage with his own dance company, Acosta Danza, in November – click here for more info and tickets.
