Chinese New Year 2025 - road closures and parking
Chinese New Year Festival on Sat 1 & Sun 2 Feb
Birmingham City Centre is likely to be very busy over the weekend, so we suggest you leave as much travel time as possible to get to Birmingham Hippodrome.
Please note, the following road and car park closures may affect your visit:
- Inge Street will be closed to traffic from 6am on Sat 1 Feb. The road closure includes Inge Street (from Essex Street junction) and Hurst Street (to Bromsgrove Street). This road will reopen at 10pm on Sun 2 Feb. All on street parking on Hurst Street will be suspended over this period.
- Thorp Street will be closed to traffic from 6am on Sun 2 Feb. The road closure includes Thorp Street (from Horse Fair junction) and Hurst Street (to Smallbrook Queensway junction). The road will reopen at 10pm on Sun 2 Feb. All on street parking on Thorp Street will be suspended over this period.
- The Gallan Car Park on Thorp Street will not be accessible throughout the day on Sun 2 Feb.
- The cycle lane running through Hippodrome Square will be suspended and diverted from 6am on Sat 1 Feb. Any cyclists travelling to the venue are asked to dismount at Smallbrook Queensway or Bromsgrove Street. The cycle lane will reopen at 10pm on Sun 2 Feb.

Hippodrome Square will be very busy on Sun 2 Feb with stage performances, processions, craft market, street food and funfair rides as part of Chinese New Year Festival. Please allow extra time to walk through the festival site.
