Birmingham Hippodrome has doubled its Youth Theatre offering by launching two brand-new groups for secondary school aged young people.

The Hippodrome’s SEN Youth Theatre is a new group for young people to explore acting and music in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Led by leading SEN drama and arts facilitators, the group will work on building confidence and skills in drama, as well as creating performances in the Hippodrome’s own studio theatre, The Patrick Studio.

The second new group, Youth Theatre, is for young people with any level of experience. The group is led by industry professionals and explores acting, devising and movement to create performances.

The theatre’s full offering includes Musicals Youth Theatre groups for Juniors (aged 7-11) and Seniors (aged 12-16). Inspired by both popular classics and contemporary musicals, the groups develop skills in singing, dancing and acting and work towards public performances.

Mathilde Petford, Young People & Community Manager at Birmingham Hippodrome said: “We’re thrilled to expand our Youth Theatre offering and provide theatre making experiences to even more young people.

“Centred around access, inclusion and upskilling individuals, our groups are open to all abilities and each have their own specialism, giving young people the opportunity to be a part of a group that aligns with their passions. We look forward to seeing this year’s participants develop their performance skills and grow their confidence as the year progresses.”
