CIRQUE ÉLOIZE PRESENTS ‘ID’
‘Cirque Eloize is leading the new wave of circus – a movement that deftly blends circus skills, theatre and dance’

Birmingham Hippodrome in association with Dance Consortiumis delighted to welcome Canadian-based CIRQUE ÉLOIZE to the City for just five exhilarating performances from Wednesday 2 – Saturday 5 November 2011.

The company will be performing their brand new production ID at the theatre as part of a short UK tour taking in Canterbury, Belfast Cardiff and Birmingham only.
ID, which will make its Midland’s premiere at Birmingham Hippodrome, is a blend of circus arts and urban dance bringing together b-boying/b-girling, breakdance, hip-hop, juggling, bike trial, aerial performances, trampolining and much more.
The first time ID will have been presented in Europe, it features an international cast of 16 energetic and multi-skilled performers fusing circus and multimedia giving it a unique feel.
Jeannot Painchaud, Cirque Éloize’s artistic director said
“There are sixteen artists on stage with twelve circus disciplines, and then the discovery of a world which is new, that of urban dances such as breakdance and hip-hop. The decidedly rock, electronic and poetic music, coupled with the presence of video, highlight the show’s playful, energetic, youthful and urban aspects.”
Positioned at the heart of the renewal of circus arts, Cirque Éloize has been creating moving performances filled with magic since 1993. Continually striving for artistic perfection, it is one of the leaders in contemporary circus arts. With seven original productions to its credit the company has presented more than 4,000 performances in over 425 cities and 35 countries.   Cirque Éloize has taken part in numerous prestigious international festivals and recently performed on Broadway with its show Rain.
Since 2004, Cirque Éloize’s head office in Old Montreal has been the site for dialogue and encounters for the circus community. To date the company hires more than 100 individuals working with various teams and projects.

NOTE TO EDITORS
Watch You Tube footage – (probably not for the faint hearted!)
CIRQUE ELOIZE featured on last night’s (26 Sept) Channel 4 cult TV programme Rude Tube where multi-talented bike trial rider Thibaut Philippe was filmed performing a death defying stunt with a Birmingham Hippodrome reporter in Boston.   Birmingham Hippodrome posted the stunt on You Tube and has since been seen by over half a million viewers worldwide.      Rude Tube placed it 28out of 50 in the most viewed videos under the title ‘Epic Skills’.    You can watch the video by clicking HERE
